Less time chasing down information, more time acting on it

Staying agile with a cloud-based system

Back in the spring of 2020, the obvious question for not only physicians but nearly everybody was, who can work from home? For Michigan Orthopaedic Surgeons, the athenaOne solution made that decision much easier, supporting both the immediate demands of COVID and long-term provider flexibility. 

Because athenaOne is cloud-based, providers can securely work from anywhere in the United States with just a laptop and an internet connection. With athenaOne mobile, physicians only need a smartphone to access clinical information. In contrast, on-premise systems require a much heavier lift, including manual support from IT to configure servers or remote desktop access.

Beyond working from home, athenaOne gives clinicians the flexibility to get work done when and where it’s most convenient for them. Haberkorn mentioned that it can be frustrating and restrictive to clinicians if their EHR system isn’t available from the cloud. If a provider intends to get charting done outside of the office, they need the flexibility of anywhere, anytime access. athenahealth Data View

Haberkorn used to spend half a day each week just building and sharing reports to give his team better business insights. In 2024, MOS added the Data View service and engaged with athenaOne Advisory Services Analytics Consulting to optimize their reporting. They received over 25 dashboards tailored to their specific needs, along with a new governance model. This transformation resulted in a 95% reduction in report generation time and a 40% improvement in user satisfaction.

Instead of manually compiling, analyzing, and summarizing that data, Haberkorn now spends five minutes every morning reviewing the customized reports curated for him. He says, “It’s unreal how much time we save. Now I can work on the business.”

With richer data delivered in visual reports, Haberkorn has time back to focus on meaningful actions and decisions. “Instead of wasting hours on just building the data into a useful framework,” Haberkorn says, he can now focus on identifying and prioritizing opportunities, such as increasing capture rates for patients visiting their appointment center by analyzing how patients are flowing into the practice.

A true partnership

Haberkorn serves on the athenahealth Revenue Cycle Management Advisory Board, a council where members share direct feedback and help shape improvements to the platform. The experience, he says, “met and exceeded” his expectations, adding that athenahealth “came through with huge improvements that we actually asked for and wanted.”
