WATERTOWN, Mass., Oct. 21, 2021 – athenahealth, Inc., a leading provider of network-enabled software and services for medical groups and health systems nationwide, today announced that Accountable Care Organization (ACO) customers using its Population Health solution earned a total of $143 million in savings in the 2020 Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Among athenahealth’s ACO customers, 81% generated shared savings and 100% avoided losses. In addition, athenahealth’s ACO customers achieved an average quality score of 97.8% for 2020 and earned an average shared savings of $22.59 per member per month (PMPM), which compares to an average of $16.23 for all other ACOs participating in MSSP. The 2020 results demonstrate the power of athenahealth’s Population Health platform and its experience helping ACO customers deliver care that focuses on value and patient outcomes.
