When I was in New Orleans for HIMSS last month, I ran into Tom Roth, one of our sales executives based in North Carolina. He was walking down Canal Street and stopped to give me an athenahealth running shirt like the one he was wearing in the Boston Marathon yesterday. Like any other spectator from afar, I expected to see pictures of Tom crossing the finish line yesterday—not the pictures on television right now.
We have received many messages of concern from our clients following yesterday’s tragic incident at the Boston Marathon. Everyone here at athenahealth is deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayers and well wishes. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families and we send our gratitude to the first responders and medical personnel who have made us proud and reminded us of the great importance of what all our clients do daily as caregivers. You should know that, thankfully, Tom and all the other athenahealth employees, their families, and our clients are safe and accounted for.
Next week is athenahealth’s largest event of the year – User Conference 2013. For this event, we welcome over 1,200 of our clients from around the country to the Hynes Convention Center in Boston for a three-day conference filled with learning, teaching and a little poker. And I’m elated to share that we have received confirmation from the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority that the Hynes Convention Center remains open. The convention authorities are naturally implementing heightened security measures to ensure the safety of all convention attendees. We are, therefore, moving ahead on schedule with UC13 – these senseless acts cannot keep us from hosting our clients in this great city many of us call ‘home’.
As our governor has stated, “Boston is open for business.” And we’re happy to say that athenahealth is, too. We look forward to welcoming many of you next week to UC13 and to the proud city of Boston.
