Going for the Gold and the EMR

by Jonathan Bush, President & CEO

I just learned that the U.S. Olympic Committee selected an electronic medical record (EMR) for the 2012 Summer Games in London.

Not ATHENA?? As in the ancient Greek goddess? The giver of Athens?

That is one RFP I would have really loved to see before it was too late!

Think of how dispersed the Olympics are. Athletes are everywhere. Wouldn’t it be great just to send links to their doctors using athenaCoordinator? Maybe athlete questionnaires using athenaCommunicator?

I love the Olympics. I was never an athlete, but my wife was, and I always imagine her on that balance beam. Of COURSE they need a common medical record for all those athletes. In the press it says they used to ship forklift pallets of paper records to each Olympics before deciding to go with an EMR by…GE!!!!!!!

Talk about “the agony of defeat!”

Next time….

Jonathan Bush is the President and CEO of athenahealth.
