Hi. I'm Jonathan Bush. I know firsthand how hard it is to run an independent practice. After all, athenahealth started as Athena Women's Health, a birthing center with multiple sites and big ambitions, until we crashed and burned because we couldn't figure out how to get paid.

Today, we help thousands of practices big and small not only stay independent but thrive in environments of change and stay focused on patient care all the while. athenahealth combines cloud-based software, networked knowledge, and back office services to help providers drive financial and clinical performance, coordinate care, and improve clinical work flow. It's possible to remain independent and be wildly successful, but you've got to execute flawlessly. athena has provided the tools to do exactly that.

To be able to have time away from the infinite details of trying to stay in business has given me the opportunity to think bigger and to think how to solve some of these problems that have been facing health care in rural America.

Our days in accounts receivable went from more than 200 on average to less than 25, and the number of patients that I see went from 25 a day now to 35 a day.

What athena allows us to do is compete with larger hospital systems. It allows us to really do all the things that, quote, unquote, "the big boys" or that bigger systems can do in a very cost effective fashion.

In many ways, I feel like I'm in business with a team. They're my partners in doing this, and in many, many things, they're a lot smarter than I am.

Not bad. Good to see you.

It became obvious from the beginning that access to the cloud would be a huge advantage for Hudson Headwaters. Our centers are miles and miles apart from each other. It has meant easy access to information and a way of using the same structures in every location in a way that we never could previously.

As a pediatrician, there's a lot of information that is accessed from different sites other than our main office-- urgent care settings, emergency rooms, and specialists, and what athena has done is brought that all to our fingertips.

One of the most powerful features of athena are the mobile tools. Anytime, anyplace, anywhere on call, you have access in your pocket with your smartphone. The iPad is just as full or robust of an EMR as the desktop version. So anywhere there's the internet, we have access to the records and patient information.

athena has helped me do my job effectively because it's allowed me to have visualization into everything that happens within the practice. With seven clinical locations, I can't be everywhere all the time, and it's difficult because you have to be. You have to know what's happening all the time.

You sound better now than you did then.

athena has been a blessing in cutting down my time. It has made the process more efficient and that extra time I could spend with the patient.

I don't have to worry about fighting with insurance companies. I don't have to spend my day looking for the document, the test result, or the chest x-ray result that came from another institution. It's all there. It's all in front of me.

We tell people all the time that if you are that worried about what you need to be doing, or what you should be doing, or what you didn't do that you should have done, then you probably should be looking at athena.

When asked by fellow cardiologists if I would recommend athena, the answer is a resounding absolutely yes. When asked why, I will tell you that athena has made the practice of medicine fun.

He's the best. I love him.

I know I'm going to open the doors tomorrow and the week after and the week after. It allowed me to do what I always wanted to without the extra pressure, so thank you, athenahealth.
