athenista Spotlight: Meet Meryl Grant, Posting Escalation Supervisor

athenaPulse: Tell us about your position at athenahealth.
Meryl Grant: As the Supervisor of the Posting Escalation team, I am responsible for the administration of the posting operations personnel and the posting daily workflow to ensure we adhere to our client minimum service commitments. I also manage CRM (customer resource management) cases and ATHENAHOLD claims related to posting.

aP: What do you do in a typical day at work?
MG: Every day is varied and intriguing and I love that about my job! My day starts with monitoring open payment batches and CRM cases to ensure we are meeting our timeline commitments. I then check in with my team to review outstanding complex claims and scenarios. These individuals are a bright and inquisitive group, and they always have new payer or claim related puzzles to figure out. I also spend quite a bit of time in meetings as well as reviewing processes/policies and procedures to improve posting quality. And no one can forget all those emails!

aP: What was the most challenging/rewarding project you worked on at athenahealth?
MG: In 2005, I worked with our Knowledge Management team to create a streamlined department specific training program. This was a great experience. We gathered together all the little bits and quirks of our billing knowledge and athenaNet® knowledge and put it into one centralized location. By creating this process, athenahealth ensures consistent training and allows the team to be certified on these policies and procedures. We continue to add to this documentation with each new payer, market, and client. Gathering this data also allows us to create new functionality to improve overall efficiency and quality.

aP: What is your favorite “athenahealth moment?”
MG: After being with athenahealth for almost five years, it’s hard to choose a favorite. athenistas by nature are very lively and fun so any gathering, whether it is a group meeting or a corporate retreat, is a favorite moment.

aP: What is your favorite way to unwind after work?
MG: I enjoy creating watercolor and collage paintings. I hate to admit it, but I am a total couch potato! I love watching TV shows and movies. I have been known to cancel other plans just to be home to watch something. Reading a good book also takes my mind off of work.
