athenista Spotlight: Meet Thomas Tria

Who handles triage when things go awry in athenaNet®? Chances are it’s this guy. Find out how he keeps clients up to speed on the latest athenaNet releases, what he likes most about his job, and what happened to his childhood pet cow. Meet Thomas Tria, athenahealth’s Client Service Technical Analyst.

athenaPulse: Tell us about your position at athenahealth.
Thomas Tria: I am currently the Client Service Technical Analyst. Before this I was a Client Service Analyst in the call center.

aP: What do you do in a typical day at work?
TT: There is a lot of variety to each one of my days. My main responsibility is to triage functionality related issues with athenaNet – whether it’s internal operations or clients reporting problems. When releases roll around every 8 weeks, I spend my time learning the new functionality and conducting internal and external trainings. Release trainings can be very challenging at times... having 100 people logged into their phones and the web presentation at once. But in the end it is rewarding to receive all the positive feedback from our clients.

aP: What do you like most about your job? Least?
TT: I really like the fact that every day I am confronted with new challenges and a chance to solve a problem and in the end make someone a little happier. I never want to tell someone we can’t do something, but unfortunately sometimes that is the case. Therefore my least favorite thing to do is to say no to anyone. I am bit a of a people pleaser.

aP: If someone gave you a million dollars, how would you spend it?
TT: I would invest in athenahealth, Inc. stock ... I mean who wouldn’t if you believe in what you do and see the good in what you do day in and day out? Oh, I would probably buy a house as well because Boston rent is a bit over the top. But, only after I sing the song, “If I had a Million Dollars...” Which I just did.

aP: What was your first job (ever)?
TT: When I was 15 I had my first job bussing tables at a country club in upstate New York.

aP: Describe something from a ‘past life’ that none of us may know about.
TT: I had a pet cow named Cinderella when I was 13. She was a beef cow so I think we all know how that story ended.

aP: Your favorite “athenahealth moment?”
TT: I will never forget seeing Jonathan Bush showing up to our indoor soccer games. I mean how many people in a company our size can say that their President/CEO plays soccer with them and is a complete riot?

aP: Best vacation you ever took?
TT: I would have to say a road trip I took in college. Four guys crammed in a car driving to Florida from NY... lots of memories and good times.

aP: Favorite way to unwind after work?
TT: Going to the gym and playing a good game of basketball or just working out.
