Client Spotlight on Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists
Many of athenahealth’s clients are movers and shakers in their field. So we’re not surprised when clients come to us with suggestions for tweaking, improving, and adding to athenahealth’s revenue cycle solution. In fact, we welcome this feedback and do everything we can to encourage and respond to client ideas.
This month, we’re proud to highlight Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists (VCS), a 36-physician cardiology practice that’s been with athenahealth for about a year. “We initially decided to work with athenahealth because of their eligibility rules, and also because of the amount of support they offered clients,” said Ann Honeycutt, Executive Director of VCS. “The CSC and Account Managers are all readily available and so knowledgeable about the system.”
“athenahealth’s system gives us the reporting capabilities we need to make business decisions accurately and in a more timely manner,” added Robin Scott, Billing Office Director at VCS.
The billing and management teams at VCS especially appreciate athenahealth’s willingness to work with them on challenges and to respond to practice needs.
“We work with athenahealth on how to do things differently so we are better served,” said Scott. “They also look at trends in our practice, and help us identify improvements on our side. For example, our Account Manager helped us improve our front-end eligibility verification. It turned out we needed to circle back to our go-live training to do a better job of verifying eligibility up front.”
“We’ve established a true business partnership,” says athenahealth’s Greg Grehn, Senior Account Manager. “Virginia Cardiovascular is on the cutting edge in the industry. We listen to them very carefully and have made changes and improvements to our services based on their feedback. And sometimes they serve as a Beta site for new products and services, helping us conduct user testing before rolling out a new offering.” For example, athenahealth is creating advice rules to assist medical practices who will participate in the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI). VCS will use the advice rules (i.e., test the rules) and give us feedback on how well the advice rules work before they are incorporated into a future release.
“A really important piece of our relationship is our Account Manager,” said Scott. “He has an open mind when it comes to listening to what we need. He is our ally. We speak weekly about things we need in our practice, and what might benefit athenahealth clients on the whole.”
Richmond-based Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists is the largest full-service Cardiovascular practice in the region, operating out of 8 sites with 36 physicians, all board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases, and many physicians with added subspecialty qualifications in Critical Care Medicine, Electrophysiology, and Nuclear Cardiology.
