New COO Joins athenahealth
We're pleased to announce that James M. MacDonald joins athenahealth as our new Chief Operating Officer. MacDonald will oversee all corporate operations and report to Jonathan Bush, Chairman and CEO of athenahealth.
Jim has over 25 years of experience in the Financial Services Industry. In addition to strong leadership credentials, Jim has deep expertise in the area of cutting-edge technology development and deployment. Prior to joining athenahealth, MacDonald spent almost seven years at Fidelity Investments; his most recent position was President of Fidelity's Human Resources Services Company. During his tenure at Fidelity, he was the Chief Information Officer of Fidelity's Management & Research Company and Fidelity's Employer Services Company. MacDonald has also served as a partner at Computer Sciences Corporation and Chief Information Officer for State Street Corporation.
In addition to his technology credibility and operational leadership experience in a transactions processing environment, Jim is very interested in building high performing teams that can do well over the long term. He loves the athenahealth mission and is excited to work in an industry that is in the business of helping people. Beyond that, he loves athenahealth's competitive position.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife Carolyn and daughter Allison in the great outdoors of Vermont, Maine and the national parks. The environment is very important to him and he likes golfing, hiking, fishing and boating. He's involved in a number of local charities dedicated to cancer awareness and prevention and he was born and raised in Braintree. In fact, he's lived most of his life in Massachusetts.
