Vol. 3 Issue 3, March 2006
"Before athenahealth, we could be weeks down the road before we spotted issues facing us. Now, we can quickly identify problems and address them."
Penny Ratzlaff
Billing Supervisor, Rockford Health System

Letter from Jonathan

As spring bumps its head against the cold, we're happy to report on a blossoming of our own: athenaClinicals continues with great success in one clinician's office. Also in this issue: what we're doing to help the "health" of your self-pay AR. For this and more (including our athenista spotlight), read on.

How is the health of your self pay?
Many practices dread the phrase "self pay." But athena is working on several initiatives to help practices get more control of self pay AR. Click here to find out what we're doing.

More success with the Alpha version of athenaClinicals
Last month, Dr. Dhiren Sutaria of Woodland Internists started using the Alpha version of athenaClinicals. And even though it's only been a few weeks, "the office is dealing with a lot less paper," Dr. Sutaria said. Click here for more on how Clinicals is improving Dr. Sutaria's practice.

athenista spotlight: Meet Anders Engen
Need a little joy in your life? Meet Anders Engen, athena's Vice President of Client Operations for the Northeast Region (and one of our own "Vice Presidents of Happiness.")

Vital Stats
The scrub rate is the number of claims moved to HOLD against the number of claims dropped by practices. The higher the rate, the more mistakes athena is catching BEFORE they end up as back-end denials. In the past six months, the scrub rate has increased by 44% for Collector clients due to new Claim Advice functionality introduced in Q4. The scrub rate is now 66% higher for Collector clients than for BasicPlus customers. This is because the Claim Advice functionality has enabled us to write a new wave of rules designed to improve collections and reduce denial rates by preventing common billing problems such as global billing violations and procedure code bundling issues.

Best wishes,
