 Last month,
Dr. Dhiren Sutaria of Woodland Internists started using the Alpha version
of athenaClinicals. And even though it's only been a few weeks, "the
office is dealing with a lot less paper," Dr. Sutaria said. "All our
faxes are going to athena and we see them in the Clinicals user interface,
rather than handling them here."
After the installation of athenaClinicals, "the flow in the office has
gotten much better," said Dr. Sutaria. "Now we have all the information
about each patient – from their medical histories to their medication
allergies – without having to recheck and rewrite those every time."
And there are other differences as well. Dr. Sutaria is particularly
pleased with the integration between athenaNet and athenaClinicals.
For the first time, he and his staff can see both the clinical and billing
history for each patient at the same time.
While there are some features of Clinicals yet to go live in his practice,
Dr. Sutaria now has all his patients' records electronically. He will
soon be able to write electronic prescriptions. And athenahealth routes
all the paper that comes to his office – lab results, prescriptions
needing authorization, and consults – to our data entry team for recording
into athenaClinicals. This means that information that used to come
via fax and U.S. mail to the practice now appears on athenaClinicals,
so the doctor and his staff can work with a single, secure "clinical
inbox." And they no longer have to deal with any paper – including faxes
– coming into the office.
Even this early in the implementation, Dr. Sutaria and his staff have
more time to spend with each patient. "I have more time to talk to patients,
instead of focusing on writing in their charts," Dr. Sutaria said.
Bethel Medical in Brockton, MA, which specializes in Family Practice
and Pediatrics and has multiple providers, is next to begin using the
Alpha version of athenaClinicals. Next quarter, athena will begin to
install our proud, 200-member Beta Class with the Beta Version of athenaClinicals.
