athenista spotlight: Meet Jamie Flaherty

She's your co-pilot, partner and advocate at athenahealth. Once awarded the coveted "Employee of the Month" at Honey Dew Donuts, she is now our Client Service Associate in the Northeast Region. Meet Jamie Flaherty, this month's featured athenista.

athenaPulse: What do you do in a typical day at work?
Jamie Flaherty: I have conference calls with my clients every day. Prior to getting on the call, I look over the client's Practice Performance Review, Clinician Performance Review, Live Benchmark report, as well as other reports to get a feel for how the client is doing. I also spend much of my day responding to emails, returning client calls and tracking internal issues.

aP: What do you help clients accomplish?
JF: I partner with my practices to help them review day-to-day workflow, offer advice and review their overall performance. I would say I am their co-pilot on "athena-air!"

aP: Funniest or most embarrassing moment at athenahealth?
JF: When I first started with the company, I went to my first Users Conference. At lunch, I sat with a few athenistas. I wasn't sure who everyone was yet. Carl Byers (the CFO at athenahealth) asked my name and position. I told him who I was, and proceeded to ask him what he did at athenahealth! I then read his nametag out loud: "Carl Byers, C.F.O." I was very embarrassed!

aP: What was your first job?
JF: When I was 15, I got a job at Honey Dew Donuts. I was there for about 2 years. I actually made employee of the month the only time we had it during those two years.

aP: What have you read lately, and what are you reading now?
JF: I love anything by Augusten Burroughs. I read all 4 of his books, and bought his 5th book the day it came out. I am waiting until I have a nice day on the beach to start it.

aP: Your favorite "athenahealth moment?"
JF: I love the Users Conference. I am in Client Operations, so I am working with clients all the time, but I usually only get to talk to them on the phone. The Users Conference is great because athenistas and clients can get together to not only learn more about athenahealth, but also to get to know the people we work with on a daily basis a little better.

aP: One thing you wish you could change at athenahealth?
JF: We should have on-site practice visits more often, so that we can spend more time with the clients that we spend most of our days talking to on the phone.

aP: Favorite way to unwind after work?
JF: I love dinner time. Whether going to a sub shop, or out for a steak and lobster... or if I stay at home and cook a homemade meal... I love unwinding with my friends and family around the dinner table.
