This morning, I’m proud to share the news that athenahealth has acquired Patient IO, a mobile care coordination platform that I founded in 2013. I speak for my co-founders, Brian Gambs and Colin Anawaty, and the rest of our talented team in Austin, Texas when I say that Patient IO is delighted to be joining forces with athenahealth to accelerate our industry’s movement towards patient-centeredcare.
athenahealth and Patient IO have worked together closely since last year, when Patient IO joined the company’s More Disruption Please (MDP) Accelerator in its Austin office. It soon became clear that marrying our mobile care management competencies with athenahealth’s unique, network-enabled services was a path to significant value.
So what’s next for Patient IO and athenahealth?
Patient IO’s patient self-management solution will become the basis of athenahealth’s mobile patient-facing app, athenaWell. Our combined offering will strengthen our ability to partner with healthcare providers as they transition to value-based care, delivering actionable insights that help them improve outcomes and quality at every turn. This integrated functionality is already live in market with select clients today, and will be made available to all athenahealth Population Health clients beginning this fall. My colleagues and I will continue to work in Austin, in the renovated Seaholm Power Plant that athenahealth and Patient IO already call our home. We’ll be donning the athenahealth purple and will set to work on our next big challenge: unbreaking healthcare.
Care coordination and patient self-management are the next big grounds on which healthcare will compete, and together, we are ready for the fight. With our combined capabilities, athenahealth looks forward to delivering more value than ever before – and for years to come.
