What we do: Most of us have experienced trying to schedule an appointment to see a specialist only to discover the next available time is months down the line. Even more problematic is when you finally get to see the specialist and learn the appointment was probably unnecessary to begin with.
At RubiconMD we understand that frustration. So we built a platform that allows primary care providers to get on-demand online consults from top specialists. A primary care provider submits a patient case via our online platform, entering medical information and uploading relevant patient labs or photos. Within a matter of hours, an assigned specialist responds to the case, providing the primary care clinician with a quick but thorough opinion. This clinical knowledge-sharing helps primary care providers deliver high-quality, comprehensive care within the community care setting.
The value we deliver: By enhancing access to the most appropriate specialist at the point of care, RubiconMD enables primary care providers to deliver better quality care and handle more patient cases. After consulting with a remote specialist, primary care providers can make more informed decisions regarding their patients’ care, often avoiding unnecessary referrals. By closing the loop and better coordinating care between primary and specialty care, the platform significantly increases cost savings for organizations.
How we disrupt health care and help providers and patients: We are enhancing the capacity of primary care and improving access to appropriate specialty expertise remotely. These online consults democratize medical expertise by increasing primary care providers’ access to knowledge from top specialists, all in an efficient and convenient manner, regardless of both providers’ locations or network. We think investing in primary care is necessary to fixing the current health care system and we want to enable front-line clinicians to offer clinically effective, patient-centric care.
Why we joined the athenahealth MDP Accelerator: Strategically, the opportunity to integrate with athenaNet, athenahealth’s cloud-based network, allows us to better fit into primary care providers’ pre-existing clinical workflow, and we are very interested in the opportunity to offer the RubiconMD platform to athenahealth’s value-based primary care customers. We also believe in athenahealth’s mission in disrupting health care and have been excited to align our organization with them.
Our Accelerator experience so far: Whenever I walk through the halls of the Watertown headquarters, I’m excited by athenahealth’s innovative spirit (and unlimited coffee). Being a part of the Accelerator, we have realized even more value than expected including strategic introductions and the ability to leverage athenahealth expertise with essential practices like marketing, public relations and compliance.
Our ultimate goal coming out of the Accelerator: We hope to be able to scale in ways that we couldn’t before, to reach new customers and provide them precise, on-demand access to specialist expertise. We’ll be able to offer a product that fits seamlessly into a primary care provider’s workflow and allows him or her to provide superior care to improve the health of patients.
